Dr. Herman Norman

“As a Generis consultant I have the freedom and responsibility to address each church as a unique entity. There is no set doctrine or prescribed list of procedures I’m required to follow. An unfolding capital campaign is a living organism. It moves and sways. It cannot achieve its highest objective if it is constrained by an inflexible program model. We are unique in our capacity to respond to individual dynamics that change from church to church and campaign to campaign.”

All his life, Dr. Herman Norman has had the unique ability to inspire others to do their best. Since 1986 when he first became a church fundraising consultant, he has helped more than 200 churches achieve their goals. For Dr. Norman, the challenge starts with listening, understanding each church’s aspirations and realistically assessing its potential for success. Serving as a collaborative partner and motivator, he helps church leaders and members capitalize on their strengths and achieve their ultimate giving potential.

When Lifestyle Stewardship is the impetus to giving, Dr. Norman points out, it’s not uncommon for capital campaigns to overflow the givers’ expectations. That’s because this approach follows the two great biblical patterns in Exodus and I Chronicles, in which God teaches that a gift can be freely given only when the heart is first properly prepared. Dr. Norman himself has been inspired by the sweeping personal faith and commitment he’s seen his clients demonstrate over the years.

Inspiring in his own right, Dr. Norman has distinguished himself throughout a professional career that spans more than 40 years. After earning his doctorate in education from Indiana University, he served 13 years as a university professor and administrator. A career military officer, he retired at the rank of commander, U.S. Naval Reserves, after 21 years of service. Dr. Norman also established his own financial services company before taking on church fundraising and ultimately joining Generis in 1991.

Dr. Norman now makes his home in Atlanta, GA and is married to the former Thena Monts Durham of Atlanta. They have five children.
