Stephen Kirk

“I believe giving is the life blood of the Christian witness. Giving points to what we truly worship. It is a habit that is indicative of our true character.  Out of the giving heart flows the future of what a community will become. As a capital fundraiser, there’s nothing I’d rather do than bring my wealth of experience in cause-related philanthropic and developmental consulting to the task of helping churches bring new life to their congregation and community.”

Stephen Kirk has successfully spearheaded church and non-profit growth initiatives, business and community economic development projects, and recruitment drives for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. As a Generis stewardship consultant, he’s come full circle—bringing his financial, public relations, and marketing expertise back to his roots, helping churches fund new missions and new growth.

Having raised more than $30 million to date, Stephen has a proven fundraising track record. Most recently, his marketing plan generated $1.2 million in start-up capital for a community development project hosted by Williams Financial Group. In 1995, when employed full-time with the United States Chamber of Commerce, he was honored for closing a record number of new-member business development pledges. He also received the highest score on the Chamber’s first national aptitude test.

Seven years earlier, Stephen received his postdoctoral start, working as a stewardship consultant and community organizer for St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC and later for St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington, DE. In that eight-year period, he raised $1.8 million in college scholarships for Delaware inner-city youth, secured $300,000 for the first minority student mentoring and counseling program at the Medical University of South Carolina and closed a $100,000 grant for the African-American Boys to Men Rites of Passage training program. He also managed church budgets of $500,000 and $3.5 million respectively.

Stephen earned a Master of Divinity degree with honors from Yale University. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna cum laude, from the North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University in Greensboro.
