Ty Herring, CFRE
“After more than 25 years of fundraising practice, one would think all the challenges possible in a campaign would be routine. But they are not. My greatest inspiration is seeing the change in an organization when donors respond to a truly worthy cause. That great ‘fire’ energizes fundraising efforts in future annual campaigns, as well as the capital campaign itself.”
For the greater part of his career Ty Herring has helped medical centers, private/church schools, retirement communities, children’s homes and other charitable organizations build relationships with major gift donors.
While each group has unique challenges, Ty excels in helping clients develop compelling “case statements” that present their organization in a new light. Donors respond to the inherent worthiness of the cause itself—rather than a litany of “needs". Skilled at overcoming objections through creative problem solving, Ty helped a retirement home raise $2 million for a new Alzheimer’s unit, winning over key donors among the residents’ own families who had been overlooked initially by the board.
Ty began his fundraising career at the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, Texas. In years prior, he served as chaplain in the largest juvenile corrections facility in Texas. A Certified Fund Raising Executive, Ty managed a fundraising department that generated more than $5 million in new gifts each year. During his 19 years at the Methodist Children’s Home, the endowment fund grew from $35 million to more than $220 million.
Outside of work, Ty has served as a national and local volunteer leader of the American Red Cross and has taught an adult Bible study class for more than 25 years. Ty has bachelor and master’s degrees in Psychology and Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and Baylor University.
He and his wife Sue live in Waco, Texas and enjoy music, travel and time with their three children and their grandchildren.
